BookPride, the independent publishing fair organized by ODEI, Osservatorio degli Editori Indipendenti (the Independent Publishers’ Observatory, Milan, BASE), enjoys great success with the public, with hundreds of publishers-exhibitors, meetings, writers and critics from Italy and overseas and tens of thousands of visitors and books sold. The third publishing fair nationally, it has become a celebration of readers, but also an essential moment for publishers, distributors and bookshop owners to meet and evaluate together how to promote reading and defend “bibliodiversity” from the threat of cultural standardization, that is represented by the large publishing companies, using new laws and understandings between the sector operators, cultural awareness and political proposals.
